Introduction to Statistics
History of
statistics
All the
writers agree with the word ‘STATISTICS’ have been derived from the Latin word ‘status’ or Italian word ‘statista’ or
the gasman word ‘statistik’ or the French word ‘statistique each of which was
used to mean political state.
Zimmerman a professor of philosophy used the word statistics
in 1787 professor Jacob Bernoulli developed the rules of probability theory Galton
developed the theory of regression and correlation R.A fisher and Pearson
developed the theory of estimation and analyses of variant and hypotheses testing
etc.
Definitions of
statistics:
1) Statistics is a science of fact and figure.
2) Statistics is a science probability and
variability.
3) Combined study of four method used to collect,
arranged, analyze and interpret the numerical data to draw conditions and to
make decisions in any field of enquiry.
Meaning of the word of statistics:
The word statistics has three different
meanings.
Statistics as Plural sense;
Firstly, In plural sense statistics mean that
are systematically collected and presented in the form of tables or charts or
graph etc.
For example: if we collect the height, weight and temperature of
the 10 insects. These numerical measures are the technically called data. To
record such characteristics statistics is used in plural sense.
Statistics as singular sense;
Secondly, In singular sense statistics meaning
methods used to collect, arrange, analyze and interpret the numerical data. These
methods are used to describe the problem.
For example: if we went to know about the average, weight and age
of college student. We will use these methods.
Statistics as
a plural of statistic;
Statistics
is a plural of statistic.
Where statistic is any
quantity measured from sample data.
For example; if a population of college students
consists of 1000 students and we select a simple random sample of the 10
students. Then the mean height of 10 students is statistic. We compute statistics
from Statistics by Statistics.

Metric Space
In this video,i defne metric space and its examples on METRIC SPACE book by QK ZR BHATTI
In mathematics, a metric space is a set for which distances between all members of the set are defined. Those distances, taken together, are called a metric on the set. A metric on a space induces topological properties like open and closed sets, which lead to the study of more abstract topological spaces.
